Final Report on my PLN

My PLN has become more creative. I have come to use more website daily. It still is a great way to organize all your favorite websites. Its a fast and easy way to have every website you use on hand.  I am now following more teachers on twitter and using more helpful site. I have learned so much from this course about technology and still will continue after the course. I think many people should have a PLN. Its great for anyone.

Blog Post #13

Technology-Prohibited-Sign-235906

This week we had to go 24 hours without using technology. I fail to comply with the activity after numerous of times. It was so hard going 24 hours without using my phone, watching TV, using my computer, or getting on Facebook. Its hard for me because I have a three year old son that stays with my sister and I call her just about every hour. When you have a child that is an hour away my cell phone is my friend all through out the day. I'm not from Mobile so I talked to my family just about everyday. Having relatives that lives up North and the only connection is Facebook was even harder. Having to use my computer to check for  emails from my group or instructor was even harder.  It was going well at work but once I got off work I totally forgot till I got home. I had to place a poster on my wall in my living room saying "NO TECHNOLOGY FOR 24 HOURS". When I was at home it was easy not to use technology but once I leave the house it was hard. Now that I'm having a baby I need to have my phone on me at all times. I can truly say I cannot live without my technology for 24 hours. Sad but so true. I think when my students enter my classroom in the future they will be already use to much technology. I'm pretty sure they will sneak and use their cell phones for texting or games because I have done so myself in school. I will try to let them know there is more to technology then Facebook, or cell phones and other things. Getting the students to do more with their hands and out doors can bring much nature to the class as well as technology. As teachers we have to be creative in all ways.

Blog Post # 12

1. Watch these video's Technology in Special Education Classroom and Teaching Special Education. Think about how technology can help in the special education classrooms. Write two to three paragraphs about how you can make a difference with your students if you were teaching a special education class in cooperating technology in the class. Following the requirements in Writing a Quality Blog Post.

2. Also write a one to two paragraph on how using technology with other subjects in the classroom. Such as math, reading, social studies, arts, or other subject.

Both video's was great. I think using technology in the classroom to help students over come many obstacles in learning is great.  Technology in Special Education was a great video where the teacher use technology heavy in the classroom to make the day go by easy. Letting the students use the computers to help them with their work makes it easy for the teacher and the student. Some students have trouble reading, so they can read a long with the computer or they can just listen. I like how the young boy use the iPad to learn how to trace numbers and letters.
screen+shot

A child's education is very important and how they learn is even more important. Teaching Special Education was a great video. Nothing like a teacher understanding where her students is coming from and how they feel. Knowing there is a student out there  that cannot express their self because of their situation. Mrs. Vogelsang use her feedback from her students as a positive reinforcement. Knowing that she is making a difference in her student lives, makes a difference in her's. It may take some time for the students to be where they need to be but soon they will get there. She love using the Smart Board because it gets the students more involved with class activities and the laptops as well. She made a statement which is "its has to be something you want, it have to be something in your heart you want to do."

playlearngrow.jpg
Using technology in the classroom to teach any subject can be fun. Math, reading, arts, history, or even science. Its just how you use technology to make it work for you and the students. Its so much you can do with the Smart Board, laptops, iPad's, cameras, iPod's, blogging, and even podcast. I feel that what make the learning fun, the student will love to learn. Technology is fun and learning from it besides sitting in a classroom reading from a book or listening to the teacher lecture all the time can be a great change. There will be much technology in my future classroom. It will not be new to the classroom much but I can make a difference with it with my future students.

C4K Final Post

We had to write on a kids blog for three weeks. Even though my student did not comment on her blog for her second week, I was giving another student blog for the other two weeks. My first student was a young girl that loves having fun in school and spending time with her family and friends. Her name was Melissa, she is 11 and have a lot of hobbies and interest. She made a Prezi about her life. She was very creative and have a lot of activities that I would love to try some day. My next student is 18brbe, I really did not get a name for the student but they had a post on the honey badgers. I learn from the student blog that a poisonous snake can't even kill a honey badger, they just pass out for a couple of hours and they back at it. They are wild creatures and nothing can't stop them. The honey badgers also not afraid of anything. I wish i was as brave as a honey badger.

rinehartemilieedm310.blogspot.com
My third student name was Jessica T.. She wrote a post about littering. She feels that the Earth is turning into a city dump. As a world, we can make a difference. One person can make a small difference but a group or a lot of people can make a change. I wrote on her blog post on how I had to do a class project for extra credit in a course by helping to clean up a community. It was fun, I met new people and as a group we made a difference in that community. Earth is where we live, we can live longer if we kept the place where we live clean. My last student was a first grade student name Camryn. She wrote about how she went to Disney World and pet a dolphin. I thought that is was cute. Even though her words was mixed up, I kind of knew what she was trying to say. I think if they start off young they will not have a problem with technology when they get older. They all did a good job and I hope they keep up the good work.

Progress Report for Final Project

frenchmichelleedm310.blogspot.com

My group and I have really likes the idea of doing a group project using the smart board. We have kept in touch and up to date using Skype, text messages, and mostly email. We mainly talked about the ideas and things we wanted to do for our project. We came up with many ideas and cannot wait to meet up to record our final plain for the project. Hope we do a great job.

Blog Post # 11

Little kids... Big Potential is an awesome video by a first grade class using technology. For the students to be so young they are well educated. They know so much about technology at an young age. They each have their own blog and a classroom webpage. It amaze me how young they are that they know so much. Their teacher, Mrs. Cassidy, should be very proud of them. They knew not to leave nothing mean on someone blog. They knew if they write on their blog everyday, that their writing skills will improve. They learn through their blogs, wikis, classroom webpage, videos, and their Nintendo DS. They liked to Skype with other classes from other states or towns. It Just amazed me at the ages they are they was well educated.
cassidyscreen

For Mrs. Cassidy Skype Interview, she has accepted technology into her classroom over ten years ago and has been using it ever since. She helped her students in many ways with the five computers that was giving to her class. She learn how to make webpage and blogs to help her students learn. The blogs is like an online progress. Parents can check up on their child through the classroom web or their personal blogs to see what they have been doing in the class. I like how she said "the world will go on without blogging, but one of the things the students get with blogging that they cannot get with paper and pencil is an audience. They are learning to communicate with other students around the world and not just the students in their classroom. She  also thinks teachers need to be technology literate. I think so as well because its much more then word processor or Microsoft software. I also liked when she says "getting information off of other people blog is not cheating its collaborating." She made a good statement because I have learn so much this semester through other people blogs post.
smithclass.org

I would love to use technology in the my future classroom. I would love to use blogs, Skype, wikis, videos, and much more technology in the classroom for a fun learning experience. But there will still be class work without technology. They will even now and then use paper and pencil. I do not want technology to take over the classroom complete because I do not want the students to forget whats more important. Sometimes technology can be just a tab bit to much fun. When I took computer courses in school or college I could not stay focus without  chatting or being on Facebook or YouTube. I want them to learn but also have fun.

Blog Post # 10

Do You Teach or Do You Educate? was a great video. Being an educator is more important then just being able to teach. An educator is a mentor, an advisor, a guider that guides a person who advises and show the way.  I love the statement that was stated in the video "Education makes a people easy to lead, but difficult to drive, easy to govern but impossible to enslave" quoted by Peter Brougham. I think I would be a good educator. I will love to mentor the young and guide them in the right direction. I was always teach to but had a few that educated me. I had a mentor, a guider, and an advisor that cared for me and my education. She never gave up on me even when my family and friends did. She was the best teacher and educator that I will always remember.  "EDUCATION IS THE KINDLING OF A FLAME NOT THE FILLING OF A VESSEL. -SOCRATES"

chalkbdz.jpg

Don't Let Them Take Pencils Home. Mr. John post was very good. On the other hand his post was not about pencils. One of his focus was about how teachers will focus on eliminating a problem, rather than promoting a solution to the problem. I think his main focus was about technology and how students should be able to take technology home. Technology is a good thing and can help students achieve a lot through using many networks. Mr. John made a good point about letting the students use technology but have fun using it.

C4T: Flipteaching, Ramsey Musallam

My C4T# 3 was a teacher name Ramsey Musallam. His first post I commented on was an interview video of him poolside at a teacher conference. He talked about how he use a flipteaching tool to flip information for students so they can have a better understanding. I thought it was neat and cool. Some students can get very confused when they do not understand the material they have to use or tools they have to use to do a class project, activities, or assignments. So he flip the information so they can get a better understanding. I told him it was cool and he commented back saying thanks and if I need any more information to email him. That was a plus for me.

C4K Summary Post

I had a student from Canada name Melissa. She is eleven years old and is in the sixth grade. She used Prezi to create a blog post about herself. She is also part french. She have three best friends and many other good friends. She is the only child and  has a pet rabbit name fluffy. She have four cousin and  love doing activities with her family. She have a lot of awesome hobbies that I wish I can do in my spire time but school and work take up much of that time. Some of her hobbies are four wheeling, dirt biking, playing the Wii, listening to music and more. She plays a lot of sports such as volley ball, soccer, cross country, basketball and many others. She is a very active you girl. I asked her do she like blogging and how long have she been blogging.

Prezi

My second student was Klaudia. Her post was about getting 500 blog post before Easter. She had made a big challenge with her teacher that she and her classmates can get five hundred blog post before Easter and if they accomplish their goal her and the class with have a party for their achievement. So all the students have to post at least three to four times a day.  I thought that was brave of her and a big challenge to accomplish and I hope they get their party.

Blog Post #9

On Mr. Joe McClung's blog post What I've Learn This Year (2008-09), he writes about what he learned from his first year of teaching. The first thing he learn was to be more student centered. He stated that most teachers become so concerned about delivering the content that they forget whats more important in teaching, which is checking for student comprehension. He also writes about being flexible. He says " NO LESSON IS EVER PERFECT. THE LESSON YOU TEACH AND THE ONE YOU PLAN IS ALWAYS DIFFERENT." I believe this because there is no way anyone can stick to exact lesson plan because it will be hard and boring. There will be mistakes but Mr. Joe says "work with it and try to better the situation.

He also talks about communication. It can be hard sometimes but communication is the key. Do not let things get out the hand with fellow teachers or students. Always work things out with them and find the best solution through communication. Also he states to not set high expectation for students. They are not perfect and so are teacher. We cannot expect them to meet expectation if we have not done it ourselves. "Our job as teachers is to simply pick them up after they fail, dust them off, and encourage them to try again."

technology

Mr. Clung also writes about not being afraid of technology, technology is our friend. I love technology so that would not be a problem for me to introduce to my students. I learn so much in this EDM310 course that technology is a blessing. Another important tip he gave was to LISTEN TO YOUR STUDENTS. I feel that this is important in teaching or not. Never know what they is trying to say is important. I also agree with him by taking the time out to know your students. At the end of his blog he states never stop learning. As educators, I think its important to learn as much as we can because something is always changing or being added into our world. I loved his blog post, it just makes me more motivated to do what I have to do to feel the experience of being a first year educator.

Blog Post #8

Richard Miller talks about in his video This is How we Dream Part 1 and 2 how multimedia is changing technology and how we teach. Technology makes it easy for us to research material without opening a book or going to a library to do research. We can do all our research with a click of a button. Its faster to find something using the internet then looking it up in a book. Dictionaries, encyclopedic, and much more is available to us through a internet search. Learning should be fun and with technology we can make it interesting and fun. Richard also talks about the changes in writing  multimedia and how its changing our community and the world around us. There where two man points he talked about which was the Incremental and Fundamental change. Time is changing and  so is technology and the we teach.

Carly Pugh Blog Post #12 was so awesome. All her ideas and comments was good. She was very detailed and right to the point.  The video she shared and posted on her blog was very awesome and good examples of her YouTube play list. She did a good job on her post. It inspired me to put more work into my blog post and just have with it. Her post went along with Dr. Miller video and writing technology. She did a good job.

EDM310 For Dummies w
as a funny video and sometimes I feel just like the girls in the video. But if it was not for the video that is inserted in the blog assignments and project assignments I would have been major lost on half of the things we had to do. It can be stressful with all the work is that has to be done but if I stay on top of it I'll be fine. The Chipper Series video makes a good point about being on time with your work and turning it in. Late work and not doing your work will not make it in any classes. You cannot pass without your work being done.

Learn to Change, Change to Learn is about educators discussing about how education is changing. They state tha a classroom should not just be a class with four walls, but it should be the world. There are so many advantages to having technology in the classroom. They believe we should start with teachers to get to the children. They have created a place where teachers can interact with teachers from around the world. Technology will also provide the best quality in the classrooms. Also one of the guys in the video states that classes today are big on standardize test and other big test, but in the real world jobs do not require that.

Cool Pics

1). I found Edmodo. Its a site mostly for teachers and students. It kind of remind me of Facebook. I can put students in groups and connect with other teachers. It can be a good site for the classroom. I can post assignments, homework, and even project activities on there. Something I can really use.
2). I think the site Animoto created the video. They have a Lite deal which is free. Then they have the Animoto Plus which is $30 a year or $5 a month. This is very affordable. Something that is a very descent price.

Blog Post # 7

The Networked Students did a good job on the video. I loved how they use pictures to get their points across. They talked about how students can be their own teachers. I like that networking gives students the time to build their own way of learning and meet other people. Teaching is changing everyday and technology is becoming more reliable. But in my opinion teachers will always be a key resource.
"Why does the networked students even need a teacher?" Because students need some guidance. Teachers are the one who give them the opportunity to build their information on their own. As teachers also help students make a way for themselves to become more open to different learning was through technology and  other resources. Teachers are here to make sure that students are making the right decision. Teachers can only help so much. They can make a difference if the student lets them. Networking can give students a more hands on based and having fun. Not just staying in the books because there is more to learning then just a book.

A 7th Grader Personal Learning Environment (PLE)
This video has taught me a lot.. I really was not sure what a PLE or PLN was till I saw this video. PLN can keep you more organized and a easy way to obtain information. It is a quicker way to get to some web links faster, and a great way to organized inofrmation about a certain topic or subject. The 7th grader showed me a way to be more organized and she was very creative with her PLE. I think I can get use to using a PLN from now on.

C4T # 2: Jenny's Learning Journey

Having a Go at Photography!
Jenny Blog
Jenny blog was about using what you have to make it work. Just because she did not have a thousand dollar camera, her camera on her iPhone took good pictures as if she used an expensive camera. Jenny said "The happiest people don’t have everything, they just make the best of everything." She was right, it does not take a lot to make someone happy. This blog post inspire me to do an assignment with my future students using what we have, instead of going out to buy things we really do not need.

Jenny Blogs

Would Google Plus be useful in the Classroom ?
Jenny blog on Google + was great. I think it will be a essential tool in the future for great networking. I never really used it, but looking at her profile it would be another way to communicate with my peers and many others. I think Google+ will be great for the classrooms. It would be a good way for teachers to network with students and their coworkers. Google is changing for the better. I posted back letting her know that i will have to try Google + one day.

C4K Summary

My first C4K was DavidRipp's Blog. He talked about how he wants to go on vacation and take his family to Australia for two to four weeks. He want to enjoy exploring the extinct Tasmanian Tiger. He said he loves the out doors and the wildlife. He had a very good blog and I posted back about how I would love to go to Cape Town, Africa. I would love to see the mother land and enjoy the sight seeing.

My second C4K was Colton's Blog. He talked about his favorite baseball team and how he wish to see them one day. His favorite players are Joe Mauer and Justin Mourau. I posted back telling him that if I had to pick a team it would be the New York Yankees.

My third C4K is Mrs. Yollis' Class Blog. The firefighters  had talked about fire safety and how Ellie's Dad came to show the students how they have to be prepared at all times for a fire call. Mr. Jamie gave the student very helpful information like not to play with matches and fire. If they are ever on fire cover their face and stop, drop, and roll. I loved the pictures and the demonstration on how a firefighter have to get ready and dress in one minute. I learn a couple of things myself. The class had a very awesome blog post.

Blog Post # 5

Dr. McLeod is a Associate Professor. CASTLE Director. Blogger. Idea generator. Solution builder. Agitator. Catalyst. “If the leaders don’t get it, it’s not going to happen.” He also received numerous awards for his technology leadership work and the center for Digital Education. His argument on kids using technology to do other things that can lead to a dangerous out come was awesome. Some people do not realize that they are causing so much drama on the internet. Cyber bulling, sexing, and porn is something most kids do not need to be doing or interactive with, but they are and its sad. Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff, Please? is a good blog and many teachers and parents need to read it.

iSchool
Travis Allen's idea was great. The video was awesome. I think its cool to have a device with all school material on it because students can learn so much with technology. He made a great point that students is already born into a world of digital work and it can help them or break them. Having a program that can help students, parents, and teachers in the classroom would be great. Better communication will be access and the student can learn through visual learning and demonstrations. It's amazing what Travis and his organization is doing and helping school's around the world prepare for the future. I would love this but in away if you have so much of school items or learning through technology where will the teachers come in if the child is learning every thing through a computer device? But I do understand where he is coming from. But there will always be teachers and teachers are here to teach for many years to come.

I fell in love with this piece. This was so awesome and beautiful. It was very creative and even though everyone was in their own home they all was on the same key and perfect harmonies. This just shows me how much the internet really have to offer. It must have took a long time to do this but it was awesome. I really enjoyed this hope everyone else did. Eric Whitacre is very creative and the music was beautiful once more.

Teaching in the 21st Century
To teach in the 21st century, is asking who will teach it to the students in this century everything they need to know in life. How will they obtain their resource. I think what he trying to say is who will go father in the teaching when it needs to be done. Who will teach the students everything they need to know? As teachers it is our job to go further with our research to teach the information to the student so they will know the information they need to know to obtain in life, school, and their surroundings. I do not think that technology can teach the way a teacher can because it takes time and care to get to a student, and technology can only give the information.

Reading Rockets
Reading Rocket is a good website for parents and teachers. They have a lot of learning apps and information for all kinds of activities and subjects. It will be helpful for the teachers for the classroom and the parents for at home. The site have tutoring sessions online, activities for struggling readers, and a lot of free apps to download for much more learning fun. It will be something I can adapt to in my future classroom for good ideas and activities for my students.

Blog Post # 4

1st Graders Create Own Read Along Book
RECORDING THE SCRIPT
This was a blog post about a teacher who did a class project with audio with first grade students. The students loved working with read a long audio. They even acted out a book and had so much fun and learn from what they read. They had the chance to do a podcast and had fun as well. It shows that students can learn from anything.

The Benefits of Podcasting in the classroom
I like the video on podcastng. It really help students in many ways. Joe Dale made a good point about helping the students with podcasting. If they missed an assignment they can use the podcast to catch up on their assignments. It's very useful for outside assignments. And the parents can see what the children is learning and help out with the assignments. I would love to have this in the classroom because it can be very helpful for me, the students and the parents. If a student can learn from something that they enjoy, its a method that will always be in the classrooms.

Judy Scharf Podcast Collection
Judy gives very good information on what is a podcast and how successful it is. She let us know that it is helpful to share information with millions of people. I can use her website in my future classroom for more ways to do a podcast. She gives very good information.

Blog Post # 3

Technology in Special Education
This video on using technology to help special need students was awesome. Many special need children have a hard times getting their work done and being successful in the classroom. Lacy Cooks takes a different approach and help her students become better and smarter through the help of technology. The iPod helps a student listen to the words of the story because he has trouble reading in silence. Audio books are always a good help for student that like for others to read to them. The students that had to use charts to spell out words so they can communicate with the teacher or other students took up a lot of time. Using the computer helped the students get their assignments done and a better way to communicate faster and easy.

There will always be special attention in the classrooms. Using technology to help my students in the future will be a great advantage for me and my students. Helping my students in anyway will be a great way for them to learn and learn the right way. Using audio, computers, smart boards, and other technology will be helpful for all the students. Giving a child the tools to learn the best way they can will be the help of all needs.
Video

How the iPad Works with Academics for Autism
Its amazing how the parents worked with the child in the video using the iPad to learn his basic words and counting numbers. The apps they use are good apps as well. I us the counting app on my phone for my son. He's three years of age and know how to count to ten. Some of the apps are very helpful for some students that have a hard time learning in different subjects. I like the Math Bingo app. It would be very helpful for grades first through third. I also like the math board. It looks like a cool app and helps the student see their mistakes and give them quizzes on what they have learn. Technology is a big key in learning and I will be using it in my classroom. Video

Gary Hayes Social Media Count
The Social Media Count is so cool. Its amazing how at this moment someone is uploading a picture, liking something on someone Facebook page, or watching a YouTube video. As a teacher, I need to be alert of my surrounding technology and what has become new and what is being updated. Some of my students will probably know more about some of the technology then I will be. Soon or later there will be another top website I would not know about but my students will. I can use the Social Media Count to see what is going on around the world. Everything counts in this technology time.

A Vision of Students Today
In A Vision of Students Today, it shows us the truth. The video was so good. Some students will get a degree and probably will not even use it. Student pay for school and will not even show up. Finishing school for me is my goal. I face my problems because at the end of my road it will be worth it. I feel that even in college, technology need to be used in the classroom. Some teachers just lecture and you have to take notes. By the first ten minutes into the lecture the student mind is some place else. Staying focus in class is the hard part when its not interesting. But hard work will pay off.

C4T # 1: Doug Off the Record

" Curating Groundhogs"
My first comment for teacher was on Doug Pete and his blog was about groundhog day. It was titled "Curating Groundhogs". It was about three different ways to create good resources about groundhog day on three different approaches. He use the LiveBinders, Scoopit, and Pinterest. They was all good layouts that was very creative for what he was doing to express Groundhog day. They all had a bookmark approach that game good information about groundhog day.

"Learning about Gaming"
Doug blog post on Learning about gaming. It was very informational and very interesting. I liked how the teacher from Toronto has an after school program on gamification. It would be something that would interest me to do something like that in my classroom. Getting the students more involved in the classroom. It gives the students a way to be creative in the classroom and in society.

Blog Post 2

Did You Know

I learned a lot from the "Did You Know?" video. It's amazing how much our country has expanded in growth and in knowledge. We are still advancing till this day. Things we learned in our freshman year in college has updated over the years. Its amazing how much our technology has advance and how many people have become accustom to our new technology. I know people in other countries are smart but I did not know that China has a 25% high IQ score then the U.S. and they becoming the # 1 English speaking country in the future. I truly believe  that technology has taken over the world and it's changing more and more each day. It's amazing how far Myspace has come and if it was a country it will be the 5th largest country. Just imagine how large Facebook would be if it was a country?

Mr. Winkle

Mr. Winkle is right. Over the years things are changing but some things will stay the same. As each day goes by something is being invented or updated in software's. From the cell phones to the computers it has advanced over the year. There are some people that love the new technology and some people that love the old way where they do not use much technology. Its mostly the youth and the upper generation that love the technology. Mr. Winkle is old fashion and some people like old fashion. I had a professor that did not watch TV or go out to the movies. He just ride his boat, and traveled all over the world on school breaks. I had a math teacher that did not believe in using calculators to solve problems. So he made us work the problems out the long way. His kids had to grow up without using calculators and internet he told us. I probably would have lost my mind if I was his child.

Creativity

Sir Ken Robinso was an awesome person. I think what he was talking about was right. Creativity is something all kids need in their life. Without creativity how can a child know where they stand in life. Some schools need to bring back the choir or music, step, arts, theater, and etc. When  I was in middle school I was in the school choir and step team. When I moved to Alabama I was not in any school activity because we did not have much. We did not even have a art, dance line, or drama class till my senior year. If children start off young they can be very creative all through their school years. Young students need to know what fits them and what makes them happy.

21st Century Leaning

Twenty first century learning is becoming advance. Kids are learning things and they do not even know it. A first graders probably knows how to work a smart phone or a laptop or computer then a first grader about twenty years ago. Children are away's learning even if it just watching TV. MY son knows all the songs on the Disney channel just from listen to them over and over and he's only three years of age. My niece and nephew learn their ABC's by listen to my oldest niece sing them. By listen to them they learn how to sing their ABC's without even knowing it. Kids are learning in different ways all the time. The future is changing and so is the ways of learning.

Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts is a good way for teens to get use to blogging or getting use to technology.
