Blog Post # 5

Dr. McLeod is a Associate Professor. CASTLE Director. Blogger. Idea generator. Solution builder. Agitator. Catalyst. “If the leaders don’t get it, it’s not going to happen.” He also received numerous awards for his technology leadership work and the center for Digital Education. His argument on kids using technology to do other things that can lead to a dangerous out come was awesome. Some people do not realize that they are causing so much drama on the internet. Cyber bulling, sexing, and porn is something most kids do not need to be doing or interactive with, but they are and its sad. Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff, Please? is a good blog and many teachers and parents need to read it.

iSchool
Travis Allen's idea was great. The video was awesome. I think its cool to have a device with all school material on it because students can learn so much with technology. He made a great point that students is already born into a world of digital work and it can help them or break them. Having a program that can help students, parents, and teachers in the classroom would be great. Better communication will be access and the student can learn through visual learning and demonstrations. It's amazing what Travis and his organization is doing and helping school's around the world prepare for the future. I would love this but in away if you have so much of school items or learning through technology where will the teachers come in if the child is learning every thing through a computer device? But I do understand where he is coming from. But there will always be teachers and teachers are here to teach for many years to come.

I fell in love with this piece. This was so awesome and beautiful. It was very creative and even though everyone was in their own home they all was on the same key and perfect harmonies. This just shows me how much the internet really have to offer. It must have took a long time to do this but it was awesome. I really enjoyed this hope everyone else did. Eric Whitacre is very creative and the music was beautiful once more.

Teaching in the 21st Century
To teach in the 21st century, is asking who will teach it to the students in this century everything they need to know in life. How will they obtain their resource. I think what he trying to say is who will go father in the teaching when it needs to be done. Who will teach the students everything they need to know? As teachers it is our job to go further with our research to teach the information to the student so they will know the information they need to know to obtain in life, school, and their surroundings. I do not think that technology can teach the way a teacher can because it takes time and care to get to a student, and technology can only give the information.

Reading Rockets
Reading Rocket is a good website for parents and teachers. They have a lot of learning apps and information for all kinds of activities and subjects. It will be helpful for the teachers for the classroom and the parents for at home. The site have tutoring sessions online, activities for struggling readers, and a lot of free apps to download for much more learning fun. It will be something I can adapt to in my future classroom for good ideas and activities for my students.

  1. Hi Jeanette,
I completely agree with you about the dangers and drama in connection with the way children are using technology today. I also think that you answered your own question beautifully, "where do teachers come in with so much technology" in reference to the iSchool Initiative, in your response to the Teaching in the 21st Century post. As teachers we need to research so we can teach positive ways to use technology and most importantly be there to care and guide, something a machine can not do.

I enjoyed reading your post, although I did notice some grammatical errors that made it a little difficult to understand what you meant, though I'm not sure if your New York background plays a role in the differences of our dialect. Such as, "father" when it should have been farther or deeper, and "future" when I think you meant further, you also said you _"feel"_ in love with the virtual choir, I know you meant _"fell"_ in love because I did too:)

It helps me to keep a dictionary at my desk when I am writing, I also have an app on my phone of the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary and I use it everyday! Best of luck

  3. I have replaced the original comment in order to correct one misspelled word. No other changes have been made.

"His argument on kids using technology to do other things that can lead to a dangerous out come was awesome. Some people do not realize that they are causing so much drama on the internet. Cyber bulling, sexing, and porn is something most kids do not need to be doing or interactive with, but they are and its sad." You entirely missed the point of Dr. McLeod's post. It was sarcasm. Reread the last sentence and you should see how you misinterpreted what he said.

"...that students is already born..." Students (your subject) is plural so your verb (is) should be plural also.

"Have a program..." Have should be Having.

"Better communication will be access..." Did you mean accessible?
" It's amazing what Travis and his organization is..." Again your subject is plural and your noun is singular.

" I really enjoyed this hope everyone else did." I think you left out and I before hope.

After 5 writing issues I stop correcting. Your writing in this post is not satisfactory and, in addition, you either misinterpret or do not correctly explain the sections on McLeod and Roberts. Please make an appointment to discuss this post, and your writing in general, with me.
