Blog Post # 5

Dr. McLeod is a Associate Professor. CASTLE Director. Blogger. Idea generator. Solution builder. Agitator. Catalyst. “If the leaders don’t get it, it’s not going to happen.” He also received numerous awards for his technology leadership work and the center for Digital Education. His argument on kids using technology to do other things that can lead to a dangerous out come was awesome. Some people do not realize that they are causing so much drama on the internet. Cyber bulling, sexing, and porn is something most kids do not need to be doing or interactive with, but they are and its sad. Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff, Please? is a good blog and many teachers and parents need to read it.

iSchool
Travis Allen's idea was great. The video was awesome. I think its cool to have a device with all school material on it because students can learn so much with technology. He made a great point that students is already born into a world of digital work and it can help them or break them. Having a program that can help students, parents, and teachers in the classroom would be great. Better communication will be access and the student can learn through visual learning and demonstrations. It's amazing what Travis and his organization is doing and helping school's around the world prepare for the future. I would love this but in away if you have so much of school items or learning through technology where will the teachers come in if the child is learning every thing through a computer device? But I do understand where he is coming from. But there will always be teachers and teachers are here to teach for many years to come.

I fell in love with this piece. This was so awesome and beautiful. It was very creative and even though everyone was in their own home they all was on the same key and perfect harmonies. This just shows me how much the internet really have to offer. It must have took a long time to do this but it was awesome. I really enjoyed this hope everyone else did. Eric Whitacre is very creative and the music was beautiful once more.

Teaching in the 21st Century
To teach in the 21st century, is asking who will teach it to the students in this century everything they need to know in life. How will they obtain their resource. I think what he trying to say is who will go father in the teaching when it needs to be done. Who will teach the students everything they need to know? As teachers it is our job to go further with our research to teach the information to the student so they will know the information they need to know to obtain in life, school, and their surroundings. I do not think that technology can teach the way a teacher can because it takes time and care to get to a student, and technology can only give the information.

Reading Rockets
Reading Rocket is a good website for parents and teachers. They have a lot of learning apps and information for all kinds of activities and subjects. It will be helpful for the teachers for the classroom and the parents for at home. The site have tutoring sessions online, activities for struggling readers, and a lot of free apps to download for much more learning fun. It will be something I can adapt to in my future classroom for good ideas and activities for my students.

Blog Post # 4

1st Graders Create Own Read Along Book
RECORDING THE SCRIPT
This was a blog post about a teacher who did a class project with audio with first grade students. The students loved working with read a long audio. They even acted out a book and had so much fun and learn from what they read. They had the chance to do a podcast and had fun as well. It shows that students can learn from anything.

The Benefits of Podcasting in the classroom
I like the video on podcastng. It really help students in many ways. Joe Dale made a good point about helping the students with podcasting. If they missed an assignment they can use the podcast to catch up on their assignments. It's very useful for outside assignments. And the parents can see what the children is learning and help out with the assignments. I would love to have this in the classroom because it can be very helpful for me, the students and the parents. If a student can learn from something that they enjoy, its a method that will always be in the classrooms.

Judy Scharf Podcast Collection
Judy gives very good information on what is a podcast and how successful it is. She let us know that it is helpful to share information with millions of people. I can use her website in my future classroom for more ways to do a podcast. She gives very good information.

Technology in Special Education
This video on using technology to help special need students was awesome. Many special need children have a hard times getting their work done and being successful in the classroom. Lacy Cooks takes a different approach and help her students become better and smarter through the help of technology. The iPod helps a student listen to the words of the story because he has trouble reading in silence. Audio books are always a good help for student that like for others to read to them. The students that had to use charts to spell out words so they can communicate with the teacher or other students took up a lot of time. Using the computer helped the students get their assignments done and a better way to communicate faster and easy.

There will always be special attention in the classrooms. Using technology to help my students in the future will be a great advantage for me and my students. Helping my students in anyway will be a great way for them to learn and learn the right way. Using audio, computers, smart boards, and other technology will be helpful for all the students. Giving a child the tools to learn the best way they can will be the help of all needs.

How the iPad Works with Academics for Autism
Its amazing how the parents worked with the child in the video using the iPad to learn his basic words and counting numbers. The apps they use are good apps as well. I us the counting app on my phone for my son. He's three years of age and know how to count to ten. Some of the apps are very helpful for some students that have a hard time learning in different subjects. I like the Math Bingo app. It would be very helpful for grades first through third. I also like the math board. It looks like a cool app and helps the student see their mistakes and give them quizzes on what they have learn. Technology is a big key in learning and I will be using it in my classroom. Video

Gary Hayes Social Media Count
The Social Media Count is so cool. Its amazing how at this moment someone is uploading a picture, liking something on someone Facebook page, or watching a YouTube video. As a teacher, I need to be alert of my surrounding technology and what has become new and what is being updated. Some of my students will probably know more about some of the technology then I will be. Soon or later there will be another top website I would not know about but my students will. I can use the Social Media Count to see what is going on around the world. Everything counts in this technology time.

A Vision of Students Today
In A Vision of Students Today, it shows us the truth. The video was so good. Some students will get a degree and probably will not even use it. Student pay for school and will not even show up. Finishing school for me is my goal. I face my problems because at the end of my road it will be worth it. I feel that even in college, technology need to be used in the classroom. Some teachers just lecture and you have to take notes. By the first ten minutes into the lecture the student mind is some place else. Staying focus in class is the hard part when its not interesting. But hard work will pay off.

C4T # 1: Doug Off the Record

" Curating Groundhogs"
My first comment for teacher was on Doug Pete and his blog was about groundhog day. It was titled "Curating Groundhogs". It was about three different ways to create good resources about groundhog day on three different approaches. He use the LiveBinders, Scoopit, and Pinterest. They was all good layouts that was very creative for what he was doing to express Groundhog day. They all had a bookmark approach that game good information about groundhog day.

"Learning about Gaming"
Doug blog post on Learning about gaming. It was very informational and very interesting. I liked how the teacher from Toronto has an after school program on gamification. It would be something that would interest me to do something like that in my classroom. Getting the students more involved in the classroom. It gives the students a way to be creative in the classroom and in society.

Did You Know

I learned a lot from the "Did You Know?" video. It's amazing how much our country has expanded in growth and in knowledge. We are still advancing till this day. Things we learned in our freshman year in college has updated over the years. Its amazing how much our technology has advance and how many people have become accustom to our new technology. I know people in other countries are smart but I did not know that China has a 25% high IQ score then the U.S. and they becoming the # 1 English speaking country in the future. I truly believe  that technology has taken over the world and it's changing more and more each day. It's amazing how far Myspace has come and if it was a country it will be the 5th largest country. Just imagine how large Facebook would be if it was a country?

Mr. Winkle

Mr. Winkle is right. Over the years things are changing but some things will stay the same. As each day goes by something is being invented or updated in software's. From the cell phones to the computers it has advanced over the year. There are some people that love the new technology and some people that love the old way where they do not use much technology. Its mostly the youth and the upper generation that love the technology. Mr. Winkle is old fashion and some people like old fashion. I had a professor that did not watch TV or go out to the movies. He just ride his boat, and traveled all over the world on school breaks. I had a math teacher that did not believe in using calculators to solve problems. So he made us work the problems out the long way. His kids had to grow up without using calculators and internet he told us. I probably would have lost my mind if I was his child.

Creativity

Sir Ken Robinso was an awesome person. I think what he was talking about was right. Creativity is something all kids need in their life. Without creativity how can a child know where they stand in life. Some schools need to bring back the choir or music, step, arts, theater, and etc. When  I was in middle school I was in the school choir and step team. When I moved to Alabama I was not in any school activity because we did not have much. We did not even have a art, dance line, or drama class till my senior year. If children start off young they can be very creative all through their school years. Young students need to know what fits them and what makes them happy.

21st Century Leaning

Twenty first century learning is becoming advance. Kids are learning things and they do not even know it. A first graders probably knows how to work a smart phone or a laptop or computer then a first grader about twenty years ago. Children are away's learning even if it just watching TV. MY son knows all the songs on the Disney channel just from listen to them over and over and he's only three years of age. My niece and nephew learn their ABC's by listen to my oldest niece sing them. By listen to them they learn how to sing their ABC's without even knowing it. Kids are learning in different ways all the time. The future is changing and so is the ways of learning.

Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts is a good way for teens to get use to blogging or getting use to technology. It's amazing how students learn from each others and what they can learn on their own. It was amazing how this Mrs. Davis started a program for students to be creative in class and letting them use their ideas to create and do things they love to do. I wish we had a class like that in high school. I had to learn things on my own with the updated technology and teach myself how things was done.
